Juxtapose launched in 2021 as Juxtapose Art Fair.
This year we are crossing out the words “art fair” from the event’s title. Why?
We are not commercial
When most people in Denmark hear the term “art fair” (kunstmesse), they imagine an art marketplace. A commercial event where visitors are expected to buy art for their home or workplace.
With Juxtapose Art Fair, our goal is not to sell art. Our goal is to help audiences discover the artist-run.
We celebrate the artist-run
Many artists run their own galleries, studios, and other organizations. These kinds of self-organized art spaces are vital to the whole art ecosystem. This is where artists experiment.
At Juxtapose, we exhibit a wide range of artist-run spaces side-by-side, so we can better understand and appreciate the many different ways that artists work.

We want to do more
We want to celebrate the artist-run year-round. To shine a brighter spotlight on the artist-run and offer more support to artists who run their own organizations.
By crossing out “art fair” from our name, we declare our goal to evolve Juxtapose into a more flexible and dynamic support structure for the artist-run in Aarhus.
The local artist-run initiative iovermorgen has updated the original Juxtapose logo (designed by Emil Brahe) and our wider visual identity to reflect the way we are changing as an organization.
