10.00-10.45
Artist's needs, internationality, and the use of utopia and foresight tools – Perspective of the Artists and the Artist Organizations (NEW)

Moderator: Saija Koponen (Finnish Painters’ Union)

Artist organizations, unions, and associations are service providers for their members. We'll discuss how the member artists' needs are met in different organizations now and how we can use utopia and foresight tools to create a holistic approach to the artist's international practice.

10.00-10.45
Valuing Artists as Consultants (Full)

Moderator: Marie Markman (artist)

City planners and property developers often seek the advice of researchers and consultants when developing their visions for the future. How can we bring artists into this process? What strategies can we develop to give artists a seat at the table? What unique contributions can artists give to research and development projects, for example around green initiatives?

11.00-11.45
Climate Sustainability - Where to Start?

Moderators: Helen Wewiora (Castlefield Gallery) and Pam Grombacher (Juxtapose)

Cultural policies and funding agencies are encouraging art organizations to become more eco-friendly. Making the green transition can be overwhelming, especially in the artist-run sector. How can we become more sustainable, with limited time and resources?

11.00-11.45
Empowering artists in practice (Full)

Moderator: Katerina Lipovka (De Structura)

From negotiating artistic fees to maintaining a healthy work-life balance, explore strategies to navigate the art world. Discuss how to assert the value of your work, prevent burnout, and foster sustainable careers for both individual artists and cultural organisations.

13.00-13.45
Monoculture vs. diversity - what humans can learn about vulnerability from the ecosystems of nature (Full)

Moderators: Lotte Lind (artist) and Sasha Rose Richter (Juxtapose)

We have been taught that we must be able to cope with our issues independently, but perhaps we can learn from nature's ecosystems that diversity and togetherness are what make us strongest and most viable.

13.00-13.45
Twin Flame (Full)

Moderator: Erika Råberg (artist)

It’s some kind of alchemy that makes for meaningful relationships between artists. How would you characterize those that have meant the most to you? Part feelings talk, part matchmaking session, this discussion aims to make use of this unique gathering of people at Juxtapose — each of us with our own network of dear friends. We’ll begin by sharing from our own experiences with relationships that truly “fill our cup.” Is it a mutual interest in subject matter? A shared (or opposite) material sensibility? Critical feedback? Simply listening? Then, taking matchmaking reality tv as loose inspiration, each participant is invited to share a bit about themselves and their practice as artist, educator, curator, or otherwise. Others will then pair them up with artists that they know well, and if desired, facilitate an introduction. Inspired in part by a recent discussion with a new friend about connecting people that each of us see in our own minds as sharing a sensibility, yet would otherwise likely not meet.

14.00-14.45
Balancing Act: the local and the global as an artist-run initiative (Full)

Moderator: Mie Frederikke Fischer Christensen (Udstillingsstedet Sydhavn Station)

How do you support the local geography and community that you exist within while also having a global perspective in the programming.

What does it mean to exist within communities that face economic challenges and change and what role do we as artist-run spaces serve within our communities.

Is it "enough" to simply exist as a platform that prides itself on being open to everyone, or do we have a responsibility to cater specifically to the local community and take measures to invite them in. Sydhavn Station has existed within a busy train station in the southern part of Copenhagen known as "Sydhavnen" for 11 years.

In this time especially our poster frieze covering the wall in the public space of the train station has made the exhibition space visible to a wide public and served as a bridge between the artistic practice and the everyday life of the habitants of Sydhavnen. The area of Sydhavnen has and continues to change - currently undergoing a series of "urban renewal" initiatives.

In this Think Tank we are inviting others to a discourse around the local and the global - and how to balance the two as an artist-run space. Everything from whether or not to translate an exhibition text to whether or not the space should or should not be active in local policy making. Please join us as we discuss the role we as artists have within our communities and help us think about how we might make more space for the local in an increasingly global world?

14.00-14.45
This Thing We Call Art (Full)

Moderator: Kelly Lloyd (artist)

Studios, workshops, exhibitions, galleries, public programmes, lectures, interviews, surveys, reports, libraries, archives, art fairs. In this Think Tank we will discuss how artists and art workers use similar forms as institutions but are ultimately creating something different. How are these artist and art worker-led projects different, and how can we navigate their beginnings, maintainings, and endings with this clearly in mind.

15.00-15.45
Evaluating the Creative Force project

Moderator: Filip Rahim Hansson (Galleri Rostrum)

Our project with Visual Arts Forum in Palestine and how four educators met and taught each other about our pedagogic strategies and ideas of creating art workshops.

15.00-15.45
Exploring Residencies as Transformative Curatorial Spaces (Full)

Moderator: Katy Morrison (PINK)

A discussion session that delves into the intriguing world of artistic residencies as dynamic spaces for curatorial exploration. Born out of my PhD titled "Systems of Rehearsal: The Residency as Performative Space for Curatorial Enquiry," this session invites participants to embark on a thought-provoking journey through the intersections of art, curation, and research.

The session will revolve around the premise that residencies are not just temporary locations for artistic production, but rather, they are conceptual frameworks that foster a symbiotic relationship between artists, institutions, and the creative process itself. We will explore how the residency, traditionally seen as parallel to the institution, can be repositioned as the central nexus for artistic experimentation and curatorial investigation.

Guided by the idea of transformation, we will investigate how residencies can transcend conventional boundaries, enabling artists and curators to immerse themselves in an intimate dialogue with the institution and the surrounding environment. Through engaging discourse, we will unpack the multifaceted support structures and working conditions that residencies offer to facilitate innovative and exploratory practices - moving fluidly between different perspectives, forms, and possibilities of the residency as both a curatorial model and research method.

10.00-10.45
Disabled Artists and the Artist-Led Scene

Moderator: Sarah-Jane Mason (Lacuna Art Festivals)

Our starting point will be acknowledging the importance of representation and visibility specifically for disabled artists working within the artist-led scene. We will discuss accessibility and inclusivity, recognising the challenges faced by disabled artists, such as funding constraints, ableism, and lack of recognition.

The aim of the discussion is to encourage open dialogue about potential solutions to these challenges through advocacy, promotion, meaningful engagement, collaboration and empowerment.

10.00-10.45
Art Meetings with Children

Moderators: Marianne Jørgensen (artist) and Cecilie Bernts (Juxtapose)

How do you make art meetings with children in daycare institutions? What are the best ways to collaborate with the teachers and school management? And how do you find the most relevant artists for the project? Join this Think Tank where Marianne Jørgensen and Cecilie Bernts talk about their experiences working with the art project KUNSTMØDER/ ARTMEETINGS.

11.00-11.45
And You Plan And You Gather: A Discussion on Community / Collective Care through Food (Full)

Moderators: Charli Herrington and Gordon H. Williams (Family Dinner)

Family Dinner (Charli Herrington and Gordon H. Williams) welcomes you to a session where we will learn together about ingredients for community / collective care - how to bring out the sweetness in each other, contrast with each other, nurture each other and blend into a complex whole. We will open up a discussion on collective processes, where we can share our experiences and perspectives, while enjoying each other’s company.

11.00-11.45
Ultra processed art: a thought experiment (Full)

Moderator: Stuart Mayes (Supermarket Art Fair)

It is becoming increasingly obvious that ultra processed food (UPF) is seriously affecting the health of people across the globe. UPF mimics real food while both failing to provide similar nutrition and stimulating addictive behaviours. Can transposing the traits of UPF on to the art world (and kinds of ultra processed imagery) be useful in understanding the challenges faced by the artist-run scene? How can we make people hungry for real art in a deluge of ultra processed visual products?

12.00-12.45
The concept of identity in a liquid society (Full)

Moderator: Hans Overvliet (ruimteCAESUUR)

Network versus community. The object versus the virtual. Two challenges for an exhibition space that really wants to connect with people, both artists and audiences, as well as take the object as a central focal point in its position.

12.00-12.45
Our experiences and challenges working with art and youth

Moderator: Filip Rahim Hansson (Galleri Rostrum)

Our thoughts on letting art have a large social context in society and how we can work preventatively through workshops involving the citizen.
